How to Host the Perfect Gathering

It's week 5 of the Spring 2021 One Room Challenge in Partnership with Better Homes & Garden! You can catch up on last week's post if you want to see what has been going on so far in this kids' playroom makeover. This week, we have made some progress in the One Room Challenge. We finally moved the furniture around and I really love how just that small change made the whole room feel different.

How it's going

We finally got the room flipped around and I love it. So does everyone else who has come over in the last few days. Apparently it really does make an impact. I think that it comes down to seeing the sofa first instead of the large black box that is the TV.

My husband was amazing and helped me move all of the furniture around. Once I moved the sofa, I had a little bit of a freak out moment. The sofa ended up being longer than I thought it would be. That doesn't really make sense since I did measurements and planned it out and yet once the sofa was in, I thought we were going to have to get rid of one of the desks. However, I was able to move the media console down to center on the fan and then there was enough room for a desk on each side of the media console. What I decided to do though instead was use the square ottomans I bought as the "chairs" for the desks. That way they can be stored all the way under the desks and pulled out and used for extra seating when needed. I think it looks good, but I forgot to take a photo, so that will have to wait until next week. I also want to add something to the corner between the sofa and desk...maybe a tree? Or maybe a plug-in sconce? Or maybe a floor lamp?? Still working on that.

Once we were done rearranging the room, my kids wasted no time at all in getting comfortable on the sofa and playing video games.

what we have accomplished

Here is the checklist that I made at the beginning of this challenge and I love to cross things off as they get done. This recap is a little brief since I am on vacation.

  1. A brand new color palette
  2. Paring down and donating
  3. Add desks -The desks barely fit, but they are so good!
  4. Get a new rug - Still waiting...
  5. Organization! - In process
  6. Reorient the room - Done!
  7. Add drapery rods and panels - On the lookout!
  8. Add art - I ordered 5 art prints, but I need to get some of them framed and I have a feeling that I will need more...
  9. Add an accent wall - Still want to, still not sure how I am going to execute it.
  10. Add other new furniture - The empty corner is screaming for a chair.

check back soon!

I can't wait to share more in a few days once the room has been flip flopped! We are getting so close!

In the meantime, make sure you check out the featured designers and other fellow guest designers. There are some really great projects going on! I am so thankful to be a part of this and to finish up this room over the next few weeks.
