Girl's Bedroom Makeover

How to Host the Perfect Gathering

I can’t believe the Spring 2020 One Room Challenge is almost over!! We have made it to Week 7 and we are so close to being done! As you may remember, I am working on a girls’ bedroom makeover for my daughter, Addison for the Spring 2020 One Room Challenge in Partnership with Better Homes & Garden. You can catch up by reading  Weeks 1 here!

Yesterday we made some real progress! And it is looking so good in there. It’s feeling calming and relaxing and color palette is so warm and earthy. To refresh your memory, here is what the paint color was before.

The paint color we chose is Artistic Taupe by Sherwin Williams and it’s a really pretty blushy taupe color. We chose Emerald Designer Edition paint from Sherwin Williams. I wanted to do just one coat and I didn’t want to prime. It went on really smooth and it didn’t spray everywhere when I rolled it on.

We taped everything off to start and that took forever, but it’s definitely a must to make sure you don’t paint the areas that you don’t want to. We started rolling first and then I used a brush the edging close to the ceiling, molding and corners. But then I realized it was easier to do those areas first and then roll afterward. Addison helped me for a little bit, then it was easier for me to do it instead since she wasn’t quite strong enough to get great coverage. Once I got started, it went fairly quickly. But here is what I realized…I don’t like to paint. Next time, I will hire someone. And I probably still need to hire someone to fix all of my mistakes. My lines are not so great.

Here is where we stand on our to-do list.

  1. A brand new color palette.
  2. Add more storage.
  3. Add a desk.  maybe??
  4. Get a new rug.
  5. Switch out the lighting.
  6. Move her dresser into the closet. – Up next!
  7. Hang the chair in the corner. – Decided not to do this…
  8. Add art. – Still working on it. 🙂
  9. Replace the curtain panels.
  10. Add other new furniture.

In the meantime, make sure you check out the featured designers and other fellow guest designers. There are some really great projects going on that you are going to want to check ou
