What’s in for 2024?

I did the same post last year and I’m bringing it back again…with a slight twist. In home staging we keep up with trends to an extent and we update our inventory regular to reflect current trends. But our aesthetic is mainly transitional in order to appeal to the most buyers possible and to work with all styles of homes. A lot of designers are sharing their predictions for 2024 design trends and I LOVE to see all of them. Some I love and some I do not love as much. But that’s the great thing about design – everyone gets to choose what makes them happy.

This post will be a hybrid of design trends that I am loving and that I am implementing or thinking about implementing into our new build. And I’m also sharing a few things that I want in my life in the upcoming year. I’m looking forward to what this year is going to bring!

2024 Design Trends

dark colors

Just like last year, I am loving a dark and moody aesthetic. But I am loving a warmer vibe right now. And I never thought I would get to a place where I was leaning toward browns, purples and reds. But some of it is just so good. In our new build, we aren’t doing a lot of darker wall colors or cabinet colors. We are keeping the finishes mostly neutral and a little lighter. BUT I want to find ways to bring in that look in with the furnishings. And maybe…just maybe, in my office, I will convince myself to take a risk and paint the library cabinets are dark moody color. I am leaning toward Wenge by Benjamin Moore. You can see that on the wall below.

vintage pieces

Especially as someone in the process of building a new home, I know how important vintage pieces will be for adding character and a story to my home. Vintage rugs, pottery, lighting, furniture – I cannot wait to find pieces that speak to me and add them into our home. When I was in Florida, I came across a vintage bench from Spain in the 1700s and I think about it daily. Those are the pieces that I want to bring in – pieces that grab my attention and make me feel a certain way. Pieces that help bring something that is literally new a sense of “oldness” and a lived in feel.

I am loving a vintage aesthetic and I know that my husband will not be on board with how far I might want to take it. Haha!

traditional influence

Last year, I said I thought European influence was going to be in and I think it was and is still going to be in this year as well. But I feel like right now I am seeing a nod to very traditional spaces. Checkerboard floors have become almost a neutral floor at this point and I think they are around to stay, but rich wood tones, luxe fabrics, statement marbles, bold florals and jewel tones are creating spaces that are reminiscent of years past and yet also still modern and fresh.

Our new build will lean a little bit more traditional, so I’m excited to take a few risks in that area, while also keeping a balance. I do love a traditional look, but I want it to be something I still love in the years to come.

natural materials with a little something extra

Think rustic, natural materials paired with clean lines and more modern pieces that keep it feeling fresh and streamlined. I LOVE natural materials that bring in warmth and texture and character to a space, but that can start to look a little too rustic, so the pairing of these things with something like a modern wood cabinet or a striking glass and metal window or a furniture piece with clean lines and a contemporary silhouette.

In our new build, there will be plenty of stone, natural materials and wood. So it will be about finding ways to play off of those materials to keep it from feeling too rustic.

2024 for me

Maybe because I’m turning 40 this year, I feel a little more pressure for this year to be something extra. Like I need to know that I am a great (if not the best) version of myself that I can be. And that is really all encompassing…and also pretty overwhelming. And maybe unattainable as well.

My focus word for this year is DELIBERATE. Fun that this word can be said two different ways and have two different meanings as well. I want to make sure that I am choosing carefully and thoughtfully what I do and how I do it and I want to take action with intention and make things happen. But the other side of that is also going about it in a way that is steady and unhurried. I tend to rush and want immediate results. This word allows me balance and freedom in it and I like that about it.

And here are few things that I want to be deliberate about inviting in and also what I want to be deliberate about having less of this year. Honestly, it’s the same as last year. Why change what’s not broken? I had great things listed for what I wanted more of last year and the things I didn’t think were serving me still aren’t. But a new word means a new focus on these things and that’s exciting.
