One Room Challenge Spring 2021 | Kids’ Playroom Makeover Week 8

Latest  Post

Things are happening in Week 4 of the Spring 2021 One Room Challenge in Partnership with Better Homes & Garden! You can catch up on last week’s post if you want to see what has been going on so far in this kids’ playroom makeover. This week will be a shorter post and hopefully next week you will get to see some more room progress on the One Room Challenge. Last week’s design board got more and more added to it, but I still need to figure out what art I am actually going to order.

How it's going...

We did a lot more cleaning out this week. My son took it upon himself to start going through the remaining bins of toys and now we are donating even more items, which is great. It’s nice to see them be able to be a little more objective at this age about what they will actually play with. It look my youngest some time, but she is a little more willing to part with items as well.

We started the process of flip flopping the room and moving the sofa was a lesson in how gross my kids are. Wrappers and food and toys. Ew!! Thank God for vacuums and trash bags.

what we have accomplished

Here is the checklist that I made at the beginning of this challenge and I love to cross things off as they get done.

  1. A brand new color palette – I feel like we have a really great color palette going and I want to make sure that the art and any other pillows we get work to bring in all of those colors.
  2. Paring down and donating – More and more items have been cleaned out. The legos are still a problem…
  3. Add desks -Desks are in and they are so pretty!
  4. Get a new rug – Please God, let this rug come in on time!
  5. Organization! – I have no idea what to do with all of the legos. The media console has closed storage, which is great. But I need to figure out the best way to use it.
  6. Reorient the room – That process has started and moving the sofa has shown me just how gross my kids are. Haha!
  7. Add drapery rods and panels – I decided against the panels that I found and will be on the hunt for a solid color was the rug gets in.
  8. Add art – I found some I loved last week, but I haven’t ordered anything yet. I might want to add a world map, so that we can pin all of of the places our family has traveled to.
  9. Add an accent wall – I still need to figure out exactly what my plan is.
  10. Add other new furniture – I want to add a comfy chair in the corner of the room, so I will be looking for some options soon.

I can’t wait to share more in a few days once the room has been flip flopped! We are getting so close!

In the meantime, make sure you check out the featured designers and other fellow guest designers. There are some really great projects going on! I am so thankful to be a part of this and I can’t wait to take you along on this room makeover over the next few weeks!
